The DBA will assist in the development of a highly-cohesive and loosely-coupled architecture according to standard industry-accepted design patterns. Assist in modifying both the tools and the underlying databases to maintain operational effectiveness. Support a multi-tiered technical solution for data management with data quality, data integrity and Master Data Management for patient identity as well as integration with DEERS and other external entities. The DBA’s duties include database upgrades, space management, object/product maintenance, database/object tuning, backup/recovery, disaster recovery planning/implementation and exercise, managing space, monitoring resources and fine-tuning the Oracle databases for better performance, writing optimal SQL queries and PL/SQL programs and performing SQL query walk-throughs prior to implementing the SQL based applications in production. The DBA will support on-going technical and operational support in all aspects of Oracle administration on NT. Write processes which monitor the health of the databases supported at DMDC. These processes monitor the growth of the stored data, the amount of space remaining for growth. Support security on the UNIX platform for the DEERS Oracle database. Perform both the logical and the physical modeling for all new and changing database system entities. Maintain joint testing databases for the Virtual Lifetime Electronic Record (VLER) project. The DBA works closely with the data quality team to ensure the accuracy and completeness of data through executing on data scrub requests. Data quality is assured through proper application coding and data cleansing. Constant vigilance is required in reviewing data content for anomalies. Assist DMDC in preparing a disaster recovery plan for the DEERS production Oracle database. The plan involves step-by-step procedures for offsite storage of journals, Oracle software and database backups and for the recovery of the production database. Work with the DMDC Systems support group to setup and implement the CAC Disaster Recovery process.
Minimum technical and experience requirements: -Minimum 6 years technical experience with Oracle database Server setup and operation in a server farm or data center operations management position -Minimum 6 years’ experience working within Linux-Unix environment -Minimum 6 years architecting database server configuration plans including clustering, load balancing, fail-over and disaster recovery models. -Minimum 6 years direct client contact in technical discussions. -2 years’ operating under ITIL or ISO 900x data center standard operating procedures desirable -Minimum 2 years planning and executing applications, data, server and storage migration and consolidation.
Oracle and ITIL certifications desirable -Highly desired, experience working in a blended environment with multiple contractor teams involved in daily operational responsibilities. -Excellent communication skills, good organizational skills, outgoing personality, self-motivated, hardworking, ability to work independently or cooperatively in a team, eager to learn, ability to grasp quickly
